I don't think you can rewrite history of remote repos since most
repos are configured to reject those commits when you try to
push the changes. But you can git-revert (just like adding a
adjustment voucher to cancel another voucher in accounting).

Assuming 5 commits in a branch

A B C D E

You wish D had never been there, the best you can do is to
git revert D  (which create a new commit D#) and then you push 
D# to remote.

A B C D E D#

Create a new branch is an option, but if the commits had
already been merged into master, then it doesn't help much.

You can find some examples of revert in jqt git repo.
