Yes Bill, I do see that the zero's are no longer stripped out, but the behaviour of the illegal characters seems more appropriate in beta 9 than beta 10 at least in unifont on a Mac.
It appears that the padding is used for characters u: 19968 and beyond. If that is accurate then I can adjust my script accordingly. Can you confirm, please? I am not convinced that alterations to the unicode standard through padding will not result in future trouble, but I don't have enough experience to give any reasonable examples. I defer to your collective good judgement.
