Simple response:
Because i can.
Because it's more fun for a developer.
This what open-source is about.
Also, there is a small chance i will contribute something for the J commmunity 
in the future.
This would not be the case if J was not not open-source.

I once produced a Cygwin version of J 701b. I will produce a Cygwin version of 
J 9.
This means some new people may be introduced to J.

And last, i was an APL user, now i am a J fan who says nice thing about J ...


With all due respect, i am curious. Why did you open-source J ?
