And it worked!  I got into the J source because I was teaching a highschool class in J and the Lab that I had written ran into an error in the debugger.  I needed that lab to work, so I went in and fixed the bug.  Little did I suspect that I would end up spending most of my time working on the J source.  It could happen to you too.

Simple response:
Because i can.
Because it's more fun for a developer.
This what open-source is about.
Also, there is a small chance i will contribute something for the J
commmunity in the future.
This would not be the case if J was not not open-source.

I once produced a Cygwin version of J 701b. I will produce a Cygwin
version of J 9.
This means some new people may be introduced to J.

And last, i was an APL user, now i am a J fan who says nice thing about J
...


With all due respect, i am curious. Why did you open-source J ?
