It occurs to me that at some point it might make sense to update J's constant notation for irrational numbers to provide double double values.
This would be a cost for people looking for extreme speed, and of course, the change would take effort, but 1p1 and 1x1 are already somewhat niche and people who really need the speed would still have options (though, granted, after some headache investigating the issue). Though there might also be an issue with dll calls? Hopefully that falls out in the wash.
