What version of SJ are you using? If you're using 2.0.x or later, you really should not need to use the start_sourcejammer and deploy.bat scripts anymore. See the quickstart guide here:

You can check on sourcejammer using a browser by hitting http://localhost:8080/sourcejammer Please re-check the server URL in your connection definition in the SJ client. Sounds like you could have a typo or incomplete URL.
