TORIT, 1 November 2011 [Gurtong] – He told Gurtong in the state
capital Torit that the ongoing rains have wreaked havoc on roads in
Burgilo, Kurumi, Longiro, Pacidi and Arilo payams.

He said floods have rendered most of the roads impassable, adding that
as a result residents have been deprived of necessary services.

“All the roads that are linked to the county headquarters at Imehejek
have become impassable and many government and non-governmental
organisations’ vehicles have been stuck for several days now”, he
said.

Urban spoke during the handover of vehicles to Budi, Lafon/Lopa,
Ikwoto and Kapoeta East counties at the State Health Ministry premises
in Torit last Friday.

He revealed that he has already approached the State Governor Louis
Lobong Lojore, who has pledged to act on the roads once the rains
subside.

Residents of the county told Gurtong that the poor state of the roads
had immensely contributed to poverty in the area as farmers cannot
access markets for their produce.

They have appealed to the county authorities and the state government
to prioritise road constructions across the state.
