TORIT, 12 November 2011 [Gurtong] –Through its Ministry of Housing and
Public Utilities, the government has received a proposal from a German
construction company, Project Development International (PDL).

The company presented its proposal to the State parliament at Hotel
Torit where it elaborated on its approaches to modernise the state’s
main towns. If successful, the company will be charged with the
responsibility of planning and constructing the physical
infrastructure.

The State Minister for Housing and Public Utilities Mark Akio Ukinbul
told Gurtong that several construction firms have expressed interest
to undertake modernisation of the state’s physical infrastructure.

He added that the relevant state bodies will vet the firm’s proposal
before forwarding it to the Council of Ministers for approval and
award of the contract.

PDL team leader who presented the firm’s proposal Victor Trautman told
the state officials that town planning is vital for industrial
development for any nation.

“PDL International provides innovative solutions for concepts in
infrastructure and offers sustainable solutions for buildings and
industrial development around the globe”, he said.

The concept, he said, would address the underdeveloped infrastructure
in the region that was devastated by the 2-decade Sudan civil war.

The plan by PDL involves construction of infrastructure ranging from
construction of commercial centres, residential areas, public offices
and institutions such as schools as well as playgrounds, sewage
reserves and airstrips.

“ Our company seeks to ensure its application of the new technological
construction plan to all the towns in Eastern Equatoria State upon
signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state authorities
and PDL”, said Trautman.
