Fraudulent Civil Servants Cornered
Civil servants who unsuccessfully contested in last year’s general
election but have sneaked back to office have been ordered to return
government funds.12 November 2011 By Peter Lokale Nakimangole

TORIT, 12 November 2011 (Gurtong) – The President of the Republic of
South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a stern decree that orders
civil servants who have been drawing salaries to return the moneys and
vacate office immediately.

The decree says that the officers are in office illegally as the South
Sudanese civil service regulations require individuals vying for
elective positions to resign from office.

“This is to notify all the civil servants who contested in the 2010
general elections but lost to pay back remunerations they have been
earning fraudulently because they decided to sneak back into their
former positions in the civil service”, said Kiir.

“All the moneys unlawfully paid to those civil servants who are deemed
to have resigned for having entered the 2010 April general elections
race shall be refunded to the Government chest accordingly from the
date they presumed to have resigned,” part of the decree reads.

The President’s order comes in the wake of intense efforts to
streamline South Sudan’s civil service.
