State Minister questioned over salary payments
Tuesday, 17 January 2012 12:58 South Sudan >>> .The Lakes State
Minister of Health Samuel Mayek Deng has been summoned to appear
before the State Assembly.

Mayek is to answer claims of non-payment of staff and irregularities
surrounding the recruitment of staff.

Mayek denies any wrong doing.

"The house wanted to know the number of things with regard to services
in the Ministry of Health. Some questions they asked were questions
that arose because of the absence of proper information like demotion
of county hospitals to Primary Health Care centers," Mayek said.

"Someone probably misinformed the house on this because we only have
two county hospitals and we have not changed the status of any one of
them," he added.

According to the Minister, SSP420,000 was used as incentives to pay
doctors in the Ministry of Health, and all medical officers and
consultants in Rumbek State Hospital are receiving their full salaries
and incentives.
