Aweil-Aroyo road construction complete
Tuesday, 17 January 2012 15:58 South Sudan >>> .64 kilometers of
road have been completed in Northern Bar-el-Ghazal State, between the
capital city of Aweil and the town of Aroyo.

Africa Kongdai, a local company for roads, bridges and investment
constructed the road. The company started construction of the road in
February last year and reached Aroyo in December.

Addressing a public rally on Monday in Aroyo to celebrate the
completion of the state's first tarmac highway, Deputy State Governor
Madut Dut Yel described the completion of the road as a great
achievement for the National Ministry of Roads and Bridges.

Radio Miraya's correspondent talked to some of the citizens of Aroyo
about the completion of the road. "We feel happy because before roads
reached our county, it was very difficult to transport sick people
from Aroyo to Aweil. We lost so many ladies who died due to pregnancy
at delivery," one resident said.

"The road is very important for the people of Aroyo because I see so
many customers and other people from the outside coming there. We also
see it as a development coming to Aroyo County," another resident
added.

All in all, South Sudan is reported to have just a few hundred
kilometers of paved road in the entire country.
