Measles immunization starts again in Lakes State Saturday, 14 January 2012 16:19 Health >>> . Measles immunization of children under the age of five has started in the six counties of Lakes State, South Sudan.
The target areas are Rumbek North, Wulu, Yirol West, Yirol East and Awerial. According to the State Coordinator of Expanded Programme on Immunization, Simon Makoi Maker, cases of measles were reported in the state and this round of immunization is for the children who missed their vaccines last year. Makoi on Friday told radio Miraya that the vaccines to three counties of Greater Yirol have already been dispatched. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that causes fever and rash. Its signs include an itchy rash covering the body, cough, high fever, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Measles can affect any unvaccinated people who never contracted measles in their life. Children below 1 year are at higher risk. Medics say there is no specific treatment for measles except vaccination. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
