Land grabbing major problem in Juba, says committee
Monday, 16 January 2012 20:03 South Sudan >>> .The Chairperson of
the Land's Committee in Central Equatoria State Assembly, Father
Prudensio Loku Vitale, on Monday expressed his concern at the rate at
which plots are being illegally claimed in Juba.

Presenting a report on land grabbing and malpractices to the state
parliamentarians, Loku said it has become a major problem in Juba.

Loku says about 200 people in Munuki alone have reported cases of
grabbed plots and similar complaints have been registered in Lologo,
Khor Wolyan and Juba Nabari.

"Juba has become a squeezed capital with no parking spaces, no
celebration squares, and no recreational centers," said Loku.

"Most of the open spaces and government reserves have been grabbed,
illegally occupied by squatters or allotted to individuals by the
State Ministry of Physical Infrastructure. Even the surveyors from the
department of survey demand 20 to 25 plots as incentives whenever they
are requested to demarcate an area," he added.

Loku also claimed that the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure
allocated large plots of land to investors to build on the grave
yards, exposing the bones of the people buried there.

The Parliamentary committee recommended returning the grabbed plots to
their rightful owners as soon as possible.
