Government to spend $6.5 billion to build roads
Wednesday, 18 January 2012 12:01 South Sudan >>> .The national
government has revealed its ten-year roads development plan that will
see more than 12,000 kilometers of roads built for an estimated 6.5
billion USD.

The Minister of Roads and Bridges, Gier Chuang Aluong, on Tuesday said
his Ministry plans to complete the road construction by 2022.

The Minister says though all roads are important, the government's
priority is to construct the road between Juba and Ramciel. Ramciel is
the proposed new location for the nation's capital.

Gier cited vegetation as a major challenge to construction and
maintenance. "The roads have been taken up by vegetation and the
erosion has taken part of the roads and the roads have become very
narrow," said Aluong.

He also listed insecurity, price fluctuation of raw materials, land
mines, inexperienced contractors and inadequate funds as the other
major challenges and obstacles towards the successful completion of
the project.
