1,000 houses demolished in Munuki Maisaba
Thursday, 19 January 2012 18:43 South Sudan >>> .Nearly 1000 houses
in Kemro, Maisaba in Munuki Payam of Juba were demolished on Tuesday,
leaving residents without homes.

The residents accused the Vice President, Riek Machar, of being
responsible for their displacement and consequent suffering.

"We were displaced yesterday, when the loader went there, he did not
call the chairman of the area. The children ran to the other side. We
the big people came to see what happened. Then there was military
police, they stopped us," James Ngor Aiwen, a resident said.

"When I ask Mr. Paul who is the director of the Vice President, he
said, it was the vice president who sent them to demolish the area to
put up a garden," said Ngor.

Ngor questions the priorities of the government if the Vice President
prefers a garden to the people, saying they did not even receive
notification of the action before it was taken.

"We want to know, is it the garden or people to settle first? So we
ask our vice president to come and tell us where we could take the
children seated there if he is the one who sent the people. Because
there is the right of the citizens of South Sudan," Ngor said.

The Vice President denied any involvement in the demolition of homes.
He said it's the Central Equatoria State that is responsible for
demolition of houses in the city.
