Over 100 children reunited with parents in Pibor
Saturday, 21 January 2012 13:32 South Sudan >>> .The Head of the
United Nations Children's Funds (UNICEF) in South Sudan has said that
over 100 children have been reunited with their parents in Pibor,
Jonglei State.

Many children went missing and some later recollected and kept by the
South Sudan Red Cross Society following the Pibor attack in December
last year. The attack left scores of people killed, unspecified cattle
looted and about 60,000 people displaced and children separated from
their parents.

Dr. Yasmine Hark, Head of Unicef in South Sudan said "Many children
are still missing and it's very important that we are very clear on
who the children are, where they are from and what their age is, boy
or girl and identification of parentage and that process has also
started in Pibor," she said.

She fears that the number of children looking for the family members
might rise and UNICEF is registering such children so that they are
easily reunited with their families.

"We have registered about 90 such children and this number is going to
be increasing and it's going to be very important for us to use this
as a basis to trace children and consulting families find their
children and reunite them together. This is something that is going to
go on for quite some time," she said.
