Fire guts SPLM Secretariat
Saturday, 18 February 2012 11:01 South Sudan >>> .Fire on Friday
gutted parts of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) National
Secretariat building in Tong Piny, Juba.

Speaking to Radio Miraya, the Secretary for Culture and Information at
the Secretariat, Bol Makueng, confirmed the incident, attributing it
to an electrical short circuit.

Makueng said nine offices including the Party Chairman's, President
Salva Kiir, the Secretary General Pagan Amum and Economic Secretary
were burnt down.

"We call it accidental, we attribute it to lack of skills" said
Makueng. He said the fire started as technicians were working on the
air conditioners.

"No injuries but we have lost about nine offices, we have also lost
the chairs in the sitting rooms and other office equipment," he added.

Makueng dispelled any fears of sabotage but said investigations will
be carried out.

Fire outbreaks are becoming so common in the city, which fire experts
attribute to the dry season, congested buildings and electrical
faults.

The president's residential office, Awake Computer Center in Munuki
and parts of the Beijing Hotel in Juba, have also recently caught
fire.

The Central Equatoria State (CES) Fire Brigade service recently said
it is overwhelmed by the rampant cases of fire outbreaks in Juba city,
since they only have two fire fighting vehicles.
