Over 100,000 people fled Blue Nile and South Kordofan
Friday, 17 February 2012 15:25 South Sudan >>> .The Representative
of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in South
Sudan, Mireille Girard says 102,000 people from Sudan's Blue Nile and
South Kordofan states fled to South Sudan from mid 2011.

Speaking during Radio Miraya's Inside South Sudan Programme on
Thursday, Girard said the Sudanese refugees are in Upper Nile and
Unity states.

"We need a lot of support, in terms of South Sudan," said Girard

"The appeal announced was USD211 million, USD66 million of which are
really needed urgently before the rain season. So we can preposition
some relief items, we can drill enough wells, we can prepare the
ground in some areas that are flooded".

"We need to prepare to level the ground to gravel to make drainages so
the people can live in decent conditions when the rain season comes.
So these are all the preparations we need to do before the rain
season," appealed Girard.

According to the UNHCR Chief, there are 25 older refugee groups from
Congo, Central African Republic who fled LRA attacks and the Ayuak
refugees from Ethiopia.
