Wau County caretaker Commissioner, John Peter Miskin has urged local
people to begin large scale farming to prevent hunger and reduce
dependence on oil.

Miskin's advice comes in the wake of increasing tensions between Sudan
and South Sudan over oil and the border.

Prices have risen in Wau, Western Bahr-el-Ghazal State (WBGS) due to a
shortage of food items which usually come from Sudan.

In an exclusive interview, Miskin told Radio Miraya that the closure
of the border with Sudan, will limit citizens' access to supplies.

"Wau market is serving as central market for other states not only the
Greater Bahr-el-Ghazal States. Even our neighbors from Western
Equatoria State get their goods from Wau.

"That is why our order to our natives is to go for cultivation this
year. If they cultivate one hectare or two that helps to cope with
this hardship next year."
