SPLM Reforms To End Corruption
The Deputy Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. Ann Itto said on Monday that the party's National Liberation Council (NLC) has called for an end to corruption. 25 April 2012 Dr. Ann Itto speaking to reporters at the SPLM premises [©Gurtong/ Lopu Moses] By Lopu Moses JUBA, 25th April 2012 [Gurtong] She was speaking at a press conference at the SPLM Southern sector where she told reporters that they are set to form a monitoring and evaluation team to check the government and the party. “The NLC wants an end to corruption and public sector reforms, accountability and good governance,” she said. The National Liberation Council is also looking forward to seeing girl child protection and good governance. At least some action plans have been tabled for the party in its efforts of transformation which includes; 1- The SPLM leadership will visit the people at the grass roots to thank them and talk to them explaining the government’s programs and the issues that the country is going through. 2- Set Ad-hoc committee to review SPLM programs. 3- Launching the re-organization of the SPLM. 4- Consulting experts on various areas where South Sudan needs improvement for example good governance. Itto said that the National Liberation Council has also decided that the party’s name be retained and that they plan to register their party in recognition of the political party bill which calls for registration of the party within 90 days or else it is de-registered. The SPLM Deputy Secretary General also revealed that they will review their documents that will be passed by the national convention next year where the party’s election is set to take place. The party will form a committee on governance and disciplinary to handle issues of indiscipline within the party. She added that last year, many people defected from the party and that the NLC has pardoned them if they want to come back to the party. The disciplinary committee will look at issues such as the issue of independent candidates who will leave the party as the case was with the 2010 elections.
