The Jonglei State government has launched two big farming projects in
Waat and Warkok to boost agricultural production, state minister of
Information and Communication, Hussein Maar Nyuot has said.

Maar, who is also the Deputy State Governor, says the projects are
being started because the disarmament exercise in Jonglei appears to
be bearing fruit.

"Since we are having successful disarmament which is relative peace
now in the state, we want to embrace agriculture".

"We have started two pilot projects - one in Waat area which is Lou
Nuer area. We want to try this, if it is successful there, then next
year we have to expand to others counties".

The deputy governor says the farm projects are the beginning to change
the attitude of the people from just keeping cattle alone.

The state government has provided 18 tractors to help communities
cultivate food crops on farms.

Maar Nyuot says the state government is deploying security forces in
the 11 counties to ensure that there is peace as the people cultivate
in their gardens.
