US has no intention to sell weapons to Juba
Wednesday, 13 June 2012 00:50 Lagu Francis South Sudan >>> . The US Ambassador to South Sudan, Susan Page says her country has no intention to provide lethal weapons to South Sudan. Last month, former special envoy to Sudan, Andrew Natsios suggested that Washington should sell air defense weapons to South Sudan to stop Sudan's aggression. Juba has repeatedly accused Khartoum of bombing its territories, which according to Natsios, can be stooped if South Sudan acquires weapons to bring down the Antinov aircraft. However, Page told reporters in Juba on Tuesday that there are already enough weapons around the world, saying her country does not have any intentions to sell such weapons to the new nation. "Our role as foreigners is to help government and people. It is not to replace the responsibility of the government of South Sudan to protect its own citizens," said Page. Page instead said the US government is focusing on negotiations and mediating disputes in the country. "We provide lots of care for people in the area and that touches a little bit on the ethnic conflict in the country". -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
