Authorities in Yambio County – Western Equatoria State have passed a local order imposing fines on people and organizations that fail to clean their homesteads ahead of Independence Day celebrations. The Commissioner of Yambio County, Kuze John Elia says the fines will be as high as two hundred and fifty South Sudanese pounds – as a way of encouraging communities to keep the county clean. Elia told Radio Miraya that the fines will be imposed on citizens, Non-Governmental Organizations, business enterprises and even government institutions. "First of all people who will not clean around their houses will face a fine of 100 SSP. Non-Governmental Organizations and business enterprises will face fines of 150 SSP and for that we are not going to compromise at all. The third category is that of the government institutions, their charge is 250 SSP." Kuze John Elia said the local order is also meant to prevent spread of diseases caused by bushy surroundings and unsanitary living conditions. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
