Interior Ministry to investigate threats on activists
Thursday, 12 July 2012 06:10 Lagu Francis South Sudan >>> . The Ministry of Interior says it will investigate allegations of threats against Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) leaders operating in South Sudan. This follows the kidnap and beating of the Civil Society Organization Alliance chairman Deng Athuai Mawir last week and threat reports to another activist Barjok Maduok Akoon. The Programs Coordinator of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmond Yakani on Wednesday called for immediate investigation into the matter. Yakani said some people feel threatened by the work of CSO's, but instead urged them to work with such activists to see the rule of law in the new nation. Speaking to Radio Miraya on Thursday, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Salva Mathok said an investigative committee has already been formed to look into the issue. Mathok called on the civil society organizations to continue with their work. CEPO is a local Non-governmental Organization dealing in human rights, rule of law, democracy and good governance. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
