JUBA, 15 July 2012 [Gurtong] - “The cattle grazing in Southern Bari,
Kurki area, Nyangwara and parts of Eastern Equatoria State, all came
from Jonglei State and Terkeka County,” says the order signed by the
Deputy Interior Minister Mathok Salva Mathok.

The encroachment has raised a lot of public outcry from the farmers in
the state.

The livestock are reported to have been destroying crops in the areas,
creating food insecurity among the farming communities.

The Ministry has threatened to evict the encroachers forcefully if
they do not comply with the order which came into effect on 12 July
2012.

The Central Equatoria State Legislative Assembly resolved to
investigate the matter when it was tabled last month.

The Assembly elected a committee to carry out investigations in Yei,
Kajo-Keji, Lainya and Juba and make a detailed report on the
encroachment.
