YAMBIO, 15 July 2012 [Gurtong] - Maridi County Commissioner Adel
Sendiri has told Gurtong that the bats have been in the area for more
than 30 years and have destroyed fruits as well as polluting the
environment through noise and leaving marks on roofs in the area.

Farmers in the county, who mostly depend on mangoes, paw paws and
guavas told Gurtong that the attack by bats has discouraged them from
the practices as the fruits get destroyed within days.

Sendiri called upon the citizens to be patient with the mammals as he
communicates to the government and the development actors to ascertain
the best solutions to the bats menace.

Meanwhile, the residents have resorted to smoking the trees where bats
reside as they wait for government action on the matter.
