As a fuel scarcity haunts Juba again, commercial banks said on
Wednesday they have been releasing US dollars to oil dealers to import
fuel.

The Executive Director of Equity Commercial Bank, Paul Gitahi, said
his bank receives US $300,000 weekly from the Central Bank, which it
in turn, makes available to fuel companies.

Gitahi told Radio Miraya that the Central Bank and the association of
petrol dealers were responsible for identifying companies that need to
access the US dollars.

The Assistant Manager of Oil Company Ltd, Mariel Garang Kaui, on
Tuesday told Radio Miraya that the shortage of fuel was a result of
lack of US dollars to import more fuel.

In April, the Central Bank announced it would be allocating one
million US dollars to commercial banks weekly, for fuel imports.
