The Japanese government through the Japan International Corporation
Agency (JICA), is introducing a new waste collection system in Juba.

The 'Fixed Time Fixed Station' system will see the introduction of
plastic rubbish bins to residential areas.

The rubbish will then be collected by garbage trucks at fixed times so
as to manage waste disposal.

JICA'S Chief Advisor for Solid Waste Management project, Kazuya Yao,
said pilot projects will start next week in Atlabara C residential
area and Jebel market before gradually extending to other areas.

"Our collection improvement will be done both in the residential areas
and for the markets. And one of the unique idea is to introduce the
fixed time station collection. We are going to put the sign board in
the area and truck the comes to pick up at that particular point. We
already have started distributing some bins to the residents and they
can bring the waste in the bins and they can put those wastes in the
fixed station along the route which we are operating," said Kazuya.
