World Bank donates books to PIC
JUBA, 28 August 2012 - The World Bank has donated a total of five
hundred text books to Public Information Centre (PIC), one of the key
units of ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Handing over the books on Friday 24th August, World Bank’s Senior
Education Specialist Dr. Christopher M. Kenyi, underscored the
importance of the centre which he says plays a crucial role in
providing learning environment and materials to the students,
researchers and the general public in terms of books, internet among
others.

Among the books included science, socio-economic and periodical books.
Kenyi urged the general public particularly students in various
learning institutions in the country to make use of the centre.

“We hope that this donation will show seeds in the new nation” said
Kenyi. He further called on the ministry to publicize PIC saying that
many do not know about the existence of the centre. “I leave next to
you but I know very little about this centre” observed Kenyi.

Dr. Kenyi recalled that the World bank is not only about Money but
also about building the capacity of the human person so that he or she
can be about to make money through provision of learning materials. He
said the Bank will continue to the centre.

Receiving the books on behalf of the Centre, Barnana Mabor the Deputy
Director of Public Information, thanked the World Bank for the
donation which he said will help tremendously in increasing the
limited stock of the centre.

“We have been having difficulties in stocking the library because of
the austerity measures, such a donation will go a long away in
realising the dreams of this centre” noted Mabor.

He called on organizations and UN agencies working in South Sudan to
emulate the World Bank.

The Public Information Centre, a government an initiative and
initially supported by the World Bank through the Multi-Trust
Development Fund (MTDF) is one of the government wings under the
ministry of Information playing a key role in disseminating
information.
