NLA to scrutinize qualifications of Political Parties Council
Tuesday, 20 November 2012 08:03 Muna Tesfai South Sudan >>> . The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has formed a ten member select committee to scrutinize the qualifications of the members of the Political Parties Council. The committee will look at the Curriculum Vitae's of the council members to see whether they are qualified to hold their positions. The team was formed after MP Victor Romuho Ohide, representing constituency number 3 Lopa, in Eastern Equatoria State, raised concern that the council has not been scrutinized. The MPs then carried out a vote and agreed that a committee be formed to look into the qualifications of the council members. Addressing the Legislators, the Speaker of the Assembly, James Wani Igga, directed the committee to produce a report to the house on Tuesday next week. "This body must come back to report within seven days. So by next Tuesday we expect them to come back with a report without fail. The honorable members to form this select committee are as follows; Hon. Pascal Clement, Hon. Magok Rondyang, Hon. David Alemi, Hon. Mawut Dong, Hon. Estenal Matur, Hon. George Andrea, Hon. Jun Malek, Hon. Ngong Deng, Hon. Pathua Chuai Deng, Hon. Natisia Ohure." The names of the Political Parties Council were proposed by the different political parties and endorsed by President Kiir, in August this year. Their names were then sent to the legislative assembly for approval. The council is charged with handling the registration of political parties. Meanwhile, the Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly has cautioned the MPs against non-performance. James Wanni Igga, criticized the MPs for failing to come up with bills and also questioned the MPs attendance. Wani Igga, told the MPs that they should stop pointing fingers at the leadership and instead perform their duties. "So, why should we jump to blame the leadership. For things to be discussed lets us come up with private bills. This is the challenge of every one of us not only the leadership, not the speaker. It is not a matter of throwing a stones here and there to whom it may concern, it may concern you. Remember that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones, so we all live in glass houses. Why don't we all come up with bills? Only 20%, the 80% given to the committees don't come back. Where is the speaker going to get the topics from to be discussed?" Last week Parliament was adjourned on two separate occasions because the printers were down, making it impossible to prints the days schedule. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
