Sudan, South Sudan to resume talks 9 December BBC News, 27/11/2012 – Sudan and South Sudan are scheduled to resume AU-sponsored negotiations this 9 December to review implementation of their recent cooperation accord signed in Addis Ababa, [Ethiopia]. Informed sources told The Citizen newspaper yesterday that the two delegations will lead the talks for which no venue has yet been named; although Juba and Khartoum are the prime candidates. An AU delegation last week ended week-long closed-door meetings with Khartoum which officially informed the delegation that Juba's reluctance to sever links with the [rebel] Sudan People's Liberation Movement Northern Sector (SPLM-N) was the main reason behind failure to implement any of the accords. The sources said the AU delegation relayed Khartoum's perspective to Juba, which replied simply that Sudan lacks commitment and uses alleged links between Juba and the SPLM-N as a pretext; Juba has long served its ties with the SPLM-N, the delegation was told. The same sources added that the AU-Juba discussion focused mainly on the border, Abyei and failed implementation of accords. The African Peace and Security Council is expected to endorse the African mediations' proposal for a referendum on Abyei, the sources said.
