We received these through SPIDER organization which has been contracted by the mother Ministry of General Education in Juba to distribute the materials to budgeted schools in the State. Our representatives have been moving along with distributing team of SPIDER in order to witness the process,” Kerubino Garang Akuei, the Senior Inspector for Primary Education said. Garang emphasized that the three remaining counties whose books are still to be brought by the contracted company should not be worried but have to wait patiently until those books are brought for the next distribution. The Senior Inspector has also said that the distribution of new textbooks and other reading materials to primary schools in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State started on Monday the 18 February and will be on progress for next one week. This is the first time that Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has received bulky textbooks from the mother Ministry since the independence. The Director General for State Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Ustaz Ceaser Atem has appealed to the community to join hands with the ministry in the state up to Payam level for proper maintenance. “I would like to tell the community, Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs) and various school headmasters to comply with our policy of maintenance and management for these books. These books are meant to be used for three years of school calendar, after that, additional books shall be printed. For this reason, all are expected to talk to pupils strictly so that they minimize misuse of these reading materials,” Atem said. The distribution of new textbooks and other reading materials is an initiative of the South Sudan Ministry of General Education and Instruction, supported by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) and will reach the payams in all the ten states of South Sudan between December 2012 and May 2013.
