Jonglei State Assembly Opening Rescheduled
Jonglei State Assembly opening has been rescheduled to March 4. 25 February 2013 Jonglei State Assembly Speaker Peter Chol Wal. [Gurtong | File] By Jacob Achiek Jok BOR, 25 February 2013 [Gurtong] – Speaker Peter Chol Wal has said assembly agreed on recess should be three months and the sitting was meant to resume on the 15 of February but was adjourned to be on 4th of March. “The reason was that the governor was not present at the state and whenever the house is open whether it is at national level, the president should be informed and the same thing in the state the house cannot be opened without the acknowledgement of the state governor,” Chol Wal told Gurtong. He said that the governor will deliver a speech during the opening to highlight the state government policies to be endorsed by the house. “So what is importance when we are going to open the house it is the quorum going to attend the sitting but I think without the members of Pibor County we cannot lack a quorum in the assembly,” he said. He said there is the Assembly Basic Committee (ABC) comprised of the speaker, his deputy and the chairpersons from the special committees and the team decides on when the assembly is to open and when it is to go for recess. “I think we will have a meeting before the opening of the house on Friday we have a regular meeting every Friday and also we are going to evaluate whether we are going to open or continue because we do not have powers,” he said. “My last message for me I think that we are going to start our work peacefully in Jonglei state and also I am urging our communities to listen to the voices and logic so that we come to reconciliation and make our state stable,” he said. He said there is no development without peace and urged the people to be peaceful.
