By Abraham Agoth,

AWEIL, 19 April 2013 [Gurtong] - Addressing the parliamentarians in
the August house on Wednesday, Chuor denied having jointly worked with
traffic police. He insisted that he has been taking sole
responsibility over collecting all taxes and hands over to the finance
department for banking.

The Traffic Director and the Revenue Commissioner are being grilled by
the state parliamentarians on issues of whose mandate it is to collect
motorbikes, vehicles and raksha [three-wheel machine] license fees.

“On my part plus my documents, including the national council of
ministers resolutions, state minister of finance’s letter to the
governor and the contract that I have signed with companies that print
the number plates, I still say on a legal ground that this licensing
and taxes fall under the ministry of Finance which is implemented the
SRA,” Mareng clarified.

He was not convinced that the work has something to do with police
since tax collection has been centralized.

Mareng said his commission only charges a definite rate for number
plates of 280 SSP and denied knowing how and where the police charge
500 SSP for a number plate.

Chuor welcomes the decision taken by legislators to cease the on-going
process of collecting money for number plates from the owners until a
ruling is made on it.
The State Police Commissioner also denied having any clue on the
management of the number plate license fees.

The State Legislators are demanding the three institutions, SRA
Commissioner, Traffic Police Director and the NBGS Police Commissioner
to appear for clarifications on Monday before forming an investigation
committee for a fact-finding mission.
