AWEIL, 19 April 2013 [Gurtong]-Speaking to the Directors of various
ministries in Aweil, Makelel called upon directors, Parents, guardians
and the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) representatives to allow
more chances of child’s rights awareness and promote free child
welfare for all in the state.

“Our children are undergoing different cultural influence while
watching at them with ignorance. We must come up with solutions to
protect and promote their way of coping with these influences without
being damaged. The increase of street is increasing day by day of poor
management in some homes and lack of affordability for children’s
education and feeding hence resulting to loss of hope in their lives
where they think of staying in the market will be the cheapest thing
to get and there she/he becomes a street child unknowingly,” she said.

This call came when Makelel took an initiative to invite most of the
directors in various ministries into a directors’ coordination meeting
organized by her in ministry in collaboration with state ministry of
social welfare to tackle the challenges being encountered by the
school children.

The participants instituted out that the government must be addressed
to give better education to young children who do not know the
importance of education.

“We are the eyes of the most parents who do not know whether children
go to schools or not. We all know that most of the children pretend to
be going to schools and later come hang up around market where they
spend the rest of their times watching prohibited films such of
karate, theft, wrestling and among others; when they come home,
instead of revising what was taught the school, then definitely the
child may have all those bad ideas he/she watched in mind which
prevents him/her from performing well at the school. We must do
something to build their capacity,” Makelel said.

Makelel while she calls on the senior directors, director generals and
the representatives of various state ministries to minimize heavy work
on children whose time is combined with school work.

Among the resolutions reached by directors were that the video show
owners must be instructed not to allow under aged children to be
watching harmful video shows and school children be arrested in case
found watching any kind of a show in public places.

The resolution calls on the police to do more efforts in enforcing the
resolutions.
