WAU, 25 April 2013 [Gurtong] –The joint launching covers three
villages, Agur, Tindil and Bahr Chana and was organized by Alur Youth
Union (AYU) in collaboration with Arkangelo Ali Association (AAA) and
Heath Net TPO as a massive campaign targeting girl’s dropping out at
schools before completing their studies or reaching marriage age.

This is the first time for Alur Youth to intensify such campaign
across Kwajieno Payam in Jur River County aiming to strengthen the
value of women in the community.
The launching has be officially marked by Mapel communities along
side with mothers, and local traditional chiefs as a petition to make
education a reality for all Alur girls in Jur River County.

Mapel women during the launching chanted loudly against rape as many
women were reportedly raped by elements under training at the SPLA
camp in Mapel town last year, cases which are not clearly tried.

Speaking during the launching ceremony, Mr Joseph Ungom Aken of Alur
youth union leader urge the community to send all their children to
school regardless of ages difference and disability.
“School can teach us to tackle all problems such as Agriculture
activities, technical works, business, leadership among others,” Aken
told the crowd.
The community of the three villages appreciated the Association of
taking that chance of covering the entire community on making
awareness on issues such as drug abuse which is affecting the youth of
new nation.

Also Bahr Channa community has so much appreciated the initiative of
girl-child education and responded by promising to open up community
school if AYU can facilitate for them the stationeries for their
school.

Aken concluded by thanking the NGOs that funded the campaign.
The girl-child is a biological female offspring from birth to 18 years
of age and it is a dangerous stage in women live stage both at
Education affecting their studies.

This is the age before one becomes young adult and is a period covers
the crèche, nursery or early childhood (0 – 5 years), primary (6 – 12
years) and secondary school (12 – 18 years).

During this period, the young child is totally under the care of the
adult who may be her parents or guardians and older siblings.
It is made up of infancy, childhood, early and late adolescence stages
of development.

During this period, the girl-child is malleable, builds and develops
her personality and character, she is very dependent on the
significant others, those on whom she models her behaviour, through
observation, repetition and imitation.

Her physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional developments
start and progress to get to the peak at the young adult stage where
most girls at schools apparently drops out due to their physical
biological changes.

Mapel Alur Girl Child Education campaign launching also marked the
first International Day of the Girl Child – October 11 – as designated
by the 193 – member General Assembly 2012 in order “to recognize
girl’s rights and highlight the unique challenges girls face around
the world”.
