TORIT, 16 May 2013 [Gurtong] – “Our Directorate is implementing taking
towns closer to the people in rural areas.”

“It is the government policy to ensure through all of us all citizens
enjoying services equally and equitably irrespective of region, race,
religion or ethnicity so long as we are truly citizens of South
Sudan,” said the State Director Lieutenant Colonel Peter Gatkuoth
Jacob.

He said the directorate is determined to reach all the important towns
in the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria State so that everybody can
have an access to obtaining certificates.

Gatkuoth also cautions against illegal acquiring of nationality
documents by foreigners describing it as malice and vows to prevent
such practice saying they cannot be entertained in the state.

The Torit County Commissioner, German Charles Ojok urges the entire
community of Eastern Equatoria to consistently cooperate by working
together with relevant authorities to avoid sneaking groups into
acquiring the South Sudanese documents.

The commissioner said that such groups include Nyangatom of Ethiopian,
Turkana of Kenya, Acholi of Uganda, Lango of Uganda, Madi of Uganda,
among others.

He notes that the government must be appreciated for ushering
independence through the struggle for decades.

The public administration minister caution citizens to be careful as
he cites instances where South Sudanese men marrying foreigners to be
careful because most of them may rush to take them by virtue of being
married arguing that it is absolutely wrong.
The Commissioner cautions the South Sudanese men to consider period
their wives have spent with them rather than deciding the next day to
obtain Nationality Cards.

In March, the Nationality, Passports and Immigration Office officially
launched its branch in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State.

The nationality documents give rights to the citizens, for citizens
identification, legal aspects, employment purposes, reduction of
double names in government payroll, for national government database
and allow students and business persons free movement especially when
crossing international borders and also serves as a symbol of unity
among South Sudanese.
