*By Abraham Agoth* *AWEIL, 19 November 2013 [Gurtong]- *Speaking to the vaccinators at Aweil civil Hospital today, the State EPI Manager Kuol Manyang said the campaign is still very important to all children less than five years despite the cases of having no polio presence in the state and across the country. He also says that the state in conjunction with partnering medical humanitarian organizations is committed to reach out to every child below five years in every county. “This is our third round follow vaccination, that we carry out as seasonally planned, the vaccination campaign kicks off today, 19th to 22nd of November which is intended to be for four days, this vaccination is going to cover all the five counties of the state plus Aweil town as well,” he told Gurtong. Manyang says the exercise is somewhat challenging especially when it is sunny as the work requires the vaccinators to walk from house to house doing the work. He also said that the work is very crucial that it requires support from the parents mostly mothers to avail their children. “Though somehow seen as simple thing to do, this work requires lots of energetic people to carry it out, as we already have vaccinators in every boma, payam and county whom we always rely on yearly, they have been doing tough job in reaching out to children under five years of age, what is important during this exercise is that mothers or guidance of the children be it baby sitters must cooperate with the vaccinator in order to do what is required as to save time and life,” he added. According to Manyang, there are around 400,000 children under five years of age targeted for this campaign and that there are only 2046 vaccinators trained to carry out the job. The state carried out its first polio campaign in March and second one in April this year while the fourth and last round comes in December.
