By Waakhe Simon Wudu *JUBA – 29 November 2013 [Gurtong] -* Several announcements were made by the SPLM Deputy Secretary General Dr. Anne Itto from early this year to hold the NLC but the success is yet to be realized. “We are planning to hold this National Liberation Council in the second week of December,” Martin Madut Yak, the SPLM Secretary for Popular and Syndicated organization told press in Juba. He explained that, the aim of the NLC is to pass the party’s basic documents already worked out by the secretariat and also scrutinized by the political bureau. The basic documents includes; the SPLM Constitution, Code of Conduct and its manifesto. The Secretariat is yet to announce the exact date for the conduct of the NLC. Success of the NLC will set the ground for the National Convention which Madut said will be held next year in April. It is unclear as to what has delayed the party from prolonging the conduct of the NLC so as to give way for the National Convention. However, internal political stalemates within the party appear to be major issue. During the passing of the basic documents by the Party’s Political Bureau, internal sources revealed critical disagreements over key issues including the term limit of the Chairperson of the party. In a previous conference before his suspension, the outspoken SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum could not confirm to the press as for how long the Chairperson of the party will keep the seat. He said the question will only be answered after the conduct of the National Convention.
