Igga Responds To Critics Of Government, President The Deputy Chairperson of the South Sudan’s ruling party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and also the Vice President James Wani Igga over the weekend rubbished statements made against the government and the presidency by a group of senior party cadres. 10 December 2013
By Waakhe Simon Wudu *JUBA – 10 December 2013 [Gurtong] - *Describing the group led by the First Deputy Chair of the SPLM Dr. Riek Machar “disgruntled elements within the SPLM membership,” Igga condemned all the claims. “It is a sugarcoated procedural demand meant to mislead those who are not following the events in the SPLM leadership,” Igga said. “It is ludicrous for the group, especially the suspended Secretary General to claim that it has been difficult to translate SPLM resolutions into plans of action.” Last Friday, senior cadres of the SPLM led by Riek and suspended party Secretary General Pagan Amum accused the leadership of H.E Salva Kiir, the Chairman of the SPLM of dictatorship within the party. The group said the party chairman could hardly give them audience to sort out maters within the party, warning that the dictatorial move may plunge the party and the country into crisis. The wife of the founder of the SPLM, Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, ex Minister of Justice John Luk, Ex-Cabinet Minister Deng Alor, Ex-Minister of Environment Alfred Lado Gore, the two sacked Governors of Lakes and Unity States Tong Chol Mayay and Taban Deng Gai among others attended the press conference. Igga was also joined by hundreds of loyal SPLM cadres during the Sunday press conference held at the SPLM House launched by the Chair, Kiir last month. The crisis within SPLM continues to deepen which many including the diplomatic corps are concerned about and hope will be sorted out amicably.
