*WAU, 03 Feb 2014[Gurtong] -* Kuol has stepped down from her post in
connection with allegations that she doubted what started on 15 December in
Juba was an attempted coup.

According various sources from Kuacjok town, Ms Kuol was forced to resign
by the state government, accusing her of her doubting the coup attempt, an
allegation she denied.

She is also accused of silent support or empathy for the rebels fighting to
overthrow the Government of South Sudan.

However, there was no clear reason for her resignation but pledged to make
a press statement on the issue in 24 hours from today.

"The media should at least give me only 24 hours so that I can prepare my
statement on why I resigned," Ms Kuol said.

The former information minister is the first government official in the
Republic of South Sudan to resign in connection with the current crisis
pitting the government against anti-government forces.
