USAID Airlifts 67 Tons Of Supplies For Needy S. Sudanese
USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance has airlifted 67 tons of
life-saving relief supplies from Nairobi to Juba for distribution to South
Sudanese who are in dire need of assistance weeks of violence.

*Juba, 06 Feb 2014 [Gurtong] - *USAID transported heavy-duty plastic
sheeting to assist 10,000 families with emergency shelter needs and enough
hygiene kits to help 4,500 families and prevent the spread of disease.

The supplies will be further distributed to towns and areas where they are
needed most by USAID's partner World Vision International.

Ambassador Susan D. Page traveled to the airport to inspect the first wave
of supplies.

"Our work here is people-centered; we are continuously dedicated to
improving the humanitarian situation here in South Sudan," she stated.

The provision of these emergency supplies comes weeks after the U.S.
government announced an additional $50 million in humanitarian assistance
to help provide safe drinking water, emergency health care, vaccinations,
improved sanitation, and shelter to those displaced by the violence.

The U.S.. government has provided nearly $320 million in humanitarian
funding to South Sudan over the past two years.
