*KUACJOK, 21 Feb 2014 [Gurtong] - *Media report emerged that Warrap state
was under heavy rebel attack and his state was asking for the national
government intervention.

"What happened in Warrap state on Tuesday was armed men suspected to be
Nuer from Unity state attacked the cattle camp in Akob Payam of Tonj north
county but our forces at their border managed to rescue all looted cattle
and they repelled the attackers without any big condition," Aleu said.

"Our forces have killed 70 of the attackers and captured 75 new AK47 rifles
and on our side, we lost 7 people and 5 were wounded. It was not a heavy
fighting as put by the Sudantribune with some pictures of burning villages
saying Warrap was under heavy attack and that we are asking the national
government intervention.

"This not true the media should not take its own interest by saying what it
has not seen and the on ground people did not say," the deputy governor
warned.

According to him, their forces were always on the alert to respond to any
attack on its community at the border, saying the attack did not warrant
calling for juba government's intervention.

The deputy governor lashed out at the international community for not
understanding what happened in South Sudan. He said the international
community does not believe there was a coup attempt but rather believes it
is a tribal conflict.

"There was no any tribal war that had been alarming in the country before
Dr. Riek and his group planned for this failed coup. Warrap state hosts
over 13,000 internally displaced persons mainly the Nuer and Dinka of
Pareing of Unity state, if this was a tribal conflict, why should Warrap be
protecting these Nuer people?"

"This is not a tribal conflict between Nuer and Dinka. It is a failed coup
attempt and later spread into civil war which meant the Nuer people who
fled Unity state over the rebel fights with the national government are
save in Warrap state."

The deputy governor said there is no point of referring this army struggle
under Dr. Riek Machar to a tribal conflict. He said the people of Warrap
state are committed to protecting lives of innocent IDPs who fled the
rebels in Unity state," Aleu said.

The Warrap state government has sent out an assessment team to Twic County
to assess the humanitarian situation there so that partners and the state
government can start to send in aid assistance to the IDPs.

Meanwhile the deputy governor mentioned that the state mobilization
committee on security has mobilized 6,000 young men to join the national
army from Warrap state.
