---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Iain Keith - Avaaz <[email protected]> Date: Wed, Jun 3, 2015 at 9:56 PM Subject: 85 years!? To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Dear friends, *This weekend seven of the most powerful nations will meet at the annual G7 summit* and Angela Merkel, who is hosting it, just announced climate is the priority and *she’ll propose they commit to a deadline to get completely off fossil fuels.* *This is HUGE!* Weeks ago we heard climate was not even going to be on the agenda. So Avaaz German members showed up at practically every major event calling on her to be a global climate hero with such creative stunts that we got her attention. And now she has stepped up, and France has got in behind her. The problem now is *Japan and Canada want the G7 to wait 85 years to get off fossil fuels*, even though they know that only gives us a 66% chance to avoid climate catastrophe! *We have just four days to stop them*, and experts say the best way is calling them out in the media and shaming them publicly for scuttling the entire global climate deal, and literally putting humanity's survival at risk. So here’s what we are aiming to do, fast -- run newspaper and TV ads and opinion polls that show they are out of touch with the public, then welcome them to Germany with killer stunts. If we do this well Merkel will have new arguments to get them on board. *Pledge now -- Avaaz won't collect donations until we have enough to cause a stir in time: * * YES, I'LL PLEDGE €2, enough for a colorful sign at a clean energy rally in Germany <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1418?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=2> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €4, enough for a few minutes from a super producer to cut a TV ad <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1419?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=4> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €8, enough to reach more Canadians with our poll <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1420?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=8> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €16, enough for part of a flashy newspaper ad <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1421?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=16> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €32, enough for a second of primetime TV advertising <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1422?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=32> * To pledge another amount, click here <http://avaaz.org/en/100_clean_emergency_en_nd/?cl=7679982323&v=59841&OtherAmount> . TV and newspaper ads are expensive, but we know they work. At the 2007 Bali climate summit, Avaaz ran a last minute ad in the main newspaper at the conference. It caused such a stink that the Japanese minister of the environment slammed it on the Prime Minister’s table and asked, “Is this how you want the world to see us?” Days later, Japan revised its climate targets, and Canada changed their position. We know *we can't wait another minute to act on climate change.* Two scientists on a mission to measure climate change in the Arctic drowned because *the very ice they went to measure was too thin to hold them.* *Angela Merkel gets it* -- she has a science PhD and helped negotiate the first global climate treaty. And as Chancellor, she’s helped Germany break records on clean energy. Now she is showing her leadership on the global stage, but we only have until December to get a global deal and she needs to get Japan and Canada to stop blocking, now. *Click below to pledge* -- we have just four days to show up loudly in Japan and Canada: * YES, I'LL PLEDGE €2, enough for a colorful sign at a clean energy rally in Germany <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1418?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=2> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €4, enough for a few minutes from a super producer to cut a TV ad <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1419?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=4> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €8, enough to reach more Canadians with our poll <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1420?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=8> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €16, enough for part of a flashy newspaper ad <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1421?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=16> YES, I'LL PLEDGE €32, enough for a second of primetime TV advertising <http://www.avaaz.org/NearED_1422?bsCVAhb&v=59841&lang=en&cid=16049&c=EUR&a=32> * To pledge another amount, click here <http://avaaz.org/en/100_clean_emergency_en_nd/?cl=7679982323&v=59841&OtherAmount> . Clean energy is exploding -- in 2013, for the first time ever, more renewable energy was installed than all the oil, gas and coal combined. But if world leaders continue to compromise it will clip the wings of this rising hope. Only a powerful movement, our movement, can put the wind in the sails of leaders so we can all rise together -- let’s make sure Merkel and the G7 are on board.
