*BOR, June 8, 2015 [Gurtong] –* The Akobo Anyuak Coordination Council in
diaspora is a non-partisan community organization that monitors
developments in Akobo County from Afar. The Anyuak is one of several tribes
living in Akobo County.

13 of the council’s members on Saturday discussed their concerns about
Akobo county commissioner Taban Juch, and agreed to send a letter to
Jonglei state Caretaker Governor, John Koang and South Sudan’s Speaker,
asking them to remove Juch from office.

Juch was elected as a national Member of Parliament in 2010 during Sudan’s
general election and was appointed Akobo County Commissioner in 2014.

The head of the Akobo Anyuak Council, Ongew Nyigwo, said it is illegal for
Juch to hold both positions at once.

“Taban Juch without resigning from his position he comes in Jonglei and he
becomes a commissioner again,” Ongew Nyigwo said.

He said without the sons and daughters of Akobo County and without Anyuak
as well, “the nomination of Taban Juch as County Commissioner is against
the law and this is not right.”

The transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan 2012 Article
63 (1) (g) states that Membership of the National Legislative Assembly
shall be lost on assumption of any constitutional office in a state or
local government level.

They called on Magok Rundial, the Speaker of South Sudan National Assembly
to expedite a replacement for Timothy Taban Juch with an Akobo Anyuak for
the seat of Akobo County in the South Sudan Legislative Assembly as per the
constitution guidelines.

They also urged Governor Koang, the Caretaker Governor of Jonglei State to
do the same in the state.
