*JUBA, 15 June 2015 [Gurtong] *– Hon. Paul Dhel Gum, Warrap Information
Minister said last week’s clashes have now been controlled and that those
violating the peace accord initiated earlier by Akackac Peace Forum
delegation and Warrap government will be held accountable.

“There are no more clashes. We have brought about 400 troops to guard and
prevent hostilities in the bordering areas. We are intending to create a
free space between Aguok and Apuk’s shared borders in order to discourage
any resumption of conflict. This time the forces will not allow movement of
any armed persons in that buffer zone,” Gum stated on phone from Kuacjok.

Clashes between Aguok and Apuk have since claimed dozens of lives of people
and the dispute has been about a row over land ownership in the areas found
at both boundaries.

Warrap State authorities say that the April clashes have claimed lives of
30 people. However, the local community say that the number may be double
that.

“We so far know that 24 people have died. The recent spreading of
information has contributed negatively in controlling the war. We find
sometimes that unfounded information is being disposed and that is fueling
the clashes. The casualties of earlier last week are not yet known to us we
will establish that information first,” said the Information Minister.

Intellectuals from Akackac Peace Forum have been in Warrap State for two
weeks now with intentions to bring peace to the warring communities.

On Saturday Augusto Akol Tong, the head of Juba Akackac delegation said
they will bring together the two sides on June 15 to discuss in a joint
forum with chiefs over the resolutions for a peace accord.

Paul Dhel Gum has said that they will start arresting the primary suspects
of the conflict this week.

Gum said the current conflict in Warrap State has no link with the ongoing
civil war in South Sudan adding that the disagreement between the two areas
has no political bases.

Both Akackac Peace Forum and Warrap government have vowed to arrest and
account any individuals that the investigatory committee finds having
participated in fuelling the war in Greater Gogrial region.
