RUMBEK, June 19, 2015 [Gurtong] - On Wednesday, Maj-Gen Matur Chut
Dhuol issued a decree relieving Speaker Baipath Majuec Rilpuou for
resons not known yet.

The Governor went ahead to appoint the Deputy Speaker to take up the
Speakers’ position in an acting capacity.

Shadrack Bol Machok, MP representing Wulu constituency Number 10 said
they boycotted the sitting because the Speakers removal was not done
in order.

Members of Parliament in the state have raised concerns over the
decision taken by the Caretaker Governor calling it unconstitutional.

“The Caretaker Governor’s decision to remove the Speaker is
unacceptable and not to be tolerated anymore like other mistakes he
does to the state. That is against the constitution of Lakes State
2011 and South Sudan constitution. A speaker can never be removed by a
decree of a Governor whatever the circumstances" said Hon Malek Machut
of Cueibet County.

Baipath remains our legitimate speaker" echoed another legislator from
Cueibet, Hon. Ayen Mayen.

Lakes State has had a number of Speakers since the signing of the
comprehensive peace agreement in 2005.
