WAU, June 26, 2015 [Gurtong] – The purpose of the meeting was to
discuss how the town residents could protect themselves from the night
attacks from criminals.

This follows a series of night attacks by unknown gunmen since the
beginning of June and rampant killings and lootings of residents’
properties.

Speaking during the meeting, Wau town Mayor said insecurity will
discourage business people from conducting their businesses as usual
for fear of being attacked.

Livio Bahara said the meeting was called to collect views and ideas on
how residents could cooperate to protect themselves from night
attacks.

The State minister of Local Government, Angelo Taban Biajo said “Our
gathering here today is not new as all of you know what is going on in
Wau town at night. The freedom of human beings begins with security
and services but if insecurity is taking place, there is a need to do
something on the issue,” said Taban.

“We are all aware of the criminal’s activities in Wau, therefore, we
are here today to find some ways on the matter,” he said.
The State Governor, Rizik Zackaria Hassan in his meeting on Thursday
with the state Special Forces accused them of not conducting their
duties as required of them.

Governor Rizik said that the forces have failed to capture the
criminals while they are patrolling at night.
