BOR, 24 July 24, 2015 [Gurtong] – The Agriculture Minister in the State
Mayen Ngor Atem says the team was sent to areas of Twic East, Duk and Bor
Counties.

He said that the team also comprises of Non-governmental Organization.

Mayen said since the beginning of this year famers have been willing to
cultivate to overcome hunger, however the villages of Badit and Jalle were
hit by drought leading to crops failure.

“I have three agriculturalists who are participating in the assessment; it
is called free harvest assessment. So now they are studying the situation,
they are surveying the situation, they are collecting the information,”
Minister Mayen Ngor Atem said.

“When they come they will give us the reports about what is happening on
the ground, so we are waiting for the information,” He told Gurtong.

He however said that, despite the drought, 2015 will have better harvest
than the previous year.

This he said is because in 2014 there was major crisis in the country but
said rainfall is expected in the months of August and September and farmers
should prepare for the second planting season to curb the situation.
