Warrap families flee violence to Abyei
 AGOK (27 Jul.)

Inter-communal fighting in South Sudan's Warrap state has driven over 100
households into the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.

The conflict-affected families are living in a school east of Agok area and
are in need of food, the head of the Abyei Relief and Rehabilitation
Commission told Radio Tamazuj.

The official said his commission intends to assess their humanitarian
conditions in order to provide assistance.

*New mosque to be built*

Separately, the Abyei area administration has decided to allocate a plot
for Muslim community to build a mosque in the area.

Deng Bol Athuai, deputy head of the area’s administration, told Radio
Tamazuj that they will approve the mosque’s land in a cabinet meeting next
week.

He pointed out that it is a constitutional right for Muslims to have their
mosque in the area. Muslims in the Abyei area have reportedly been praying
in open areas especially during Islamic occasions.

Meanwhile, several Muslims expressed their happiness about the recent
decision to allocate them a piece of land for the mosque. They confirmed
their readiness to build the mosque in the area as soon as possible.
